12th ISIR Summer School on
Value-Driven Inventory Management in Logistics and Supply Chains

Kühne Logistics University, Hamburg, Germany
August 17‐21, 2015

The 12th ISIR Summer School is organized by the International Society for Inventory Research (ISIR) and the Kühne Logistics University (Prof. Dr. Sandra Transchel) and will take place at the Kühne Logistics University in Hamburg, Germany, from August 17 to 21, 2015 with the central theme “Value-Driven Inventory Management in Logistics and Supply Chains”. We think this is an appropriate topic as inventory management has changed from just cost cutting research to a more value-based management.

The main goal of this summer school is to bring together Ph.D. students and professors from three main areas in the field of inventory management: conceptual, empirical, and modeling research. The idea is to study and discuss various theories, methods, and applications in inventory management. Various interesting areas will be the focus of this year’s summer school:
– Sustainability issues of supply chain inventory management
– Advanced topics in supply chain inventory control
– Inventory management in the field of Humanitarian Logistics
– Supply chain coordination/integration and its impact on inventory management
– Financial implication of inventory management
– Behavioral aspects of supply chain management
– Inventory management of service operations

Objective

The objective of the summer school is to provide a place for Ph.D. students to present their research work and to discuss various aspects with fellow students and senior researchers. For each presentation two participants – one Ph.D. student and one senior researcher – will act as discussants. In addition to the presentations of Ph.D. students, senior researchers will give talks and offer tutorials.

A detailed program of the summer school will be made available through the summer school’s web site (www.the-klu.org/12th-isir-summer-school)

Our aim is to have a summer school with 30-40 participants, with a balanced mix of Ph.D. students and senior researchers.

Application and Registration

All communication for the application and registration process will be done through the summer school’s website (www.the-klu.org/12th-isir-summer-school).

We invite Ph.D. students to apply to participate in the summer school by submitting an extended abstract of their research of about 400‐500 words until April 30, 2015. Ph.D. students will be notified about the acceptance of their paper before May 15, 2015. Each accepted Ph.D. student is supposed to submit a complete working paper no later than June 30, 2015.

Senior researchers who would like to give a presentation or act as a discussant are asked to send a note before April 30, 2015. Senior researchers are encouraged to participate together with a Ph.D. student.

Both, Ph.D. students and senior researchers, have to register before June 30, 2015. The registration fee for the summer school is 200 EUR and includes lunches, an excursion, the social program, and a gala dinner. A registration form will be available on our web page by that time.

Location and Venue

The Kühne Logistics University (KLU), named after its founder and donor, Klaus-Michael Kühne, is a private, independent, international and state-recognized business school (www.the-klu.org). With a strong emphasis on logistics and supply chain management research and education, KLU has a very young faculty which is being expanded by several new hires every year with the intent to build up a strong international reputation in research and teaching. The KLU offers a broad spectrum of courses and research in logistics, supply chain and business management.

The Kühne Logistics University is located in the waterfront urban development area of HafenCity in Hamburg, which is ideal for the campus as it is close to one of Europe’s largest seaports.

Accommodation

There is a good choice of hotel rooms of various categories available in Hamburg. Participants requiring accommodation are invited to book their own rooms. We are in the process of negotiating flat rates with hotels. Rates for these hotels and a list of other possibilities will be made available soon.
