CALL FOR HOSTING THE 2019 ISIR SUMMER SCHOOL

 

SUBMIT YOUR PROPOSAL BEFORE MAY 31, 2018

The International Society for Inventory Research (ISIR) invites institutions/universities to host the ISIR Summer School in the non-symposium (every odd) years. The objective of the summer school is to provide an opportunity for PhD students to present their research work and discuss various aspects of it with fellow students and senior researchers.

So far we had summer schools in Leipzig, Germany (1993), Portoroz, Slovenia (1995), Ioannina, Greece (1997), Exeter, United Kingdom (1999), Loftahammar, Sweden (2001), Eindhoven, The Netherlands (2003), Mannheim, Germany (2005), Brescia, Italy (2007), Katowice, Poland (2009), Istanbul, Turkey (2011), Neuchâtel, Switzerland (2013), Hamburg, Germany (2015), Vienna, Austria (2017).

Now we are looking for the host of 2019 ISIR Summer school.

Date and location

The summer school is usually organized in August. The professional program takes 5 days which may include a plant visit or excursion as well.

Classes are held in the host institution’s facility, students and professors may stay in a nearby dormitory, hostel or hotel of their choice.

Students

The summer school is primarily intended for PhD students, who can apply to participate by submitting an extended abstract about their research topic. Upon the acceptance of their application, they have to submit a working paper before a given deadline. Each paper/presentation will be reviewed by a fellow student and a tutor, who will act as discussants after the presentation at the school.

Tutors & professors

Professors/senior researchers are either invited personally or a call is embedded in the 1st announcement, so if they are willing to contribute they can contact the school secretariat directly. Costs should be covered by the professors and no tutorial fee is paid.

The ideal number of participants, including students and tutors, is max 40 persons.

Costs

The participation fee (which is usually less than EUR 200) should cover the school materials, meals and excursion. All participants pay for their own accommodation and travel.

The total budget is under the control of the host organization that may raise sponsorship to cover extra expenses.

Communications

The ISIR Secretariat provides assistance in the communication of the event by uploading information on the ISIR website; sending out DM letters to potential participants. Certainly we are at the service of the host organization. (Naming a contact person from the host organization would ease the communication.)

Follow-up

The host will provide a short report about the professional content of the event for the ISIR Newsletter within a month after the event.

Submitting proposals for the coming Summer School

Those who wish to host an ISIR Summer School should fill-in the online application form before May 31, 2018.

Decision about the host will be made by the ISIR Executive Committee one month after the submission deadline. The aim is that the school can be officially announced at the ISIR Symposium in August 2018.
